The purpose of the project is to provide hydrologic analysis, alternatives assessment, updated hydraulics, conceptual design, and an updated flood hazard area delineation (FHAD). The project goals include:
Update hydrology in the basin
Identify existing flooding and drainage issues within the study area
Obtain input from the public, stakeholders, and the project sponsors to develop feasible solutions
Recommend conceptual stormwater conveyance and detention improvement measures
Prepare a FHAD for the creek
PROJECT AREAThe Second Creek watershed drains from southeast to northwest and outfalls into the South Platte River. The creek crosses through several jurisdictions including: Unincorporated Adams County, the City of Aurora, the City of Brighton, the City of Commerce City, and the Denver International Airport (DIA). The upper half of the watershed is in a current state of rapid development due to its vicinity to DIA and the “Aerotropolis” area. The lower portion Second Creek crosses through more established areas and through significant transportation and irrigation infrastructure.
